6 heures Enduro des Champions Pole Position

On Saturday March 6, Peter Luu brought his team Project K of five drivers who were: Elvis Martel, Maxim Duchaine, Mike Mays and Simon Bélanger along with race strategist Julien Godbout, to take part in the 6 hours endurance race from Pole Position magazine. The race was at Montreal’s indoor karting center of Kart-o-Mania. Only the top six teams from the two previous 4 heures Pole Position were invited to form a total of twelve teams. Peter knew that even though the competition would be very hard, his team would remain a strong podium contender. “After looking at the competition, I believe my team could realistically fight for a podium spot and maybe even win. Our team pushed very hard starting 11th from 12 teams from a random starting order. Our chances of winning were gone after we found out our kart wasn’t competitive enough so we had to fight for 2nd or 3rd place. After all our efforts, we ended up with 3rd position.”

Winner of the 4 Heures Pole Position Nocturne of 2010

Friday the 22nd was the 4 hours endurance indoor kart race event organized by Pole Position magazine. This event took place at Kart-o-Mania indoor karting center and it reunites many of Quebec’s race drivers from various motorsport disciplines. It is Quebec’s most famous indoor kart race and this year, there are over a hundred drivers taking part in that event divided into two races. Peter Luu brought his team called Project K to compete in the 4 Heures Pole Position Nocturne on Friday which is the first of the two 4 Heures race. The team was confident that they could challenge for the win if everything went well, and it really happened. “I didn’t know the level of the competition, but I trusted my three teammates who were Elvis Martel, Nicolas Morissette and Maxim Duchaine. Nothing went wrong and we went on to win our first race in the 4 heures Pole Position. I also won a prize for the fastest lap of the race. I am looking forward to race in the six hours race for the top six teams from each of the two 4 heures race.”

Another perfect race

After the win from round #9 of the Challenge 500 in Action 500, Peter did not return there until round #11 where he felt that he wanted to repeat his previous success having miss round #10. ”I have started driving a kart for the first time at Action 500 exactly two years ago, so I had an urge to compete. I went to the race with full determination to win. I got a great kart for qualifying and I qualified on pole. The kart I had for the race was good although the brakes were finished. Everything went well because I didn’t have any kart problems and with a good pace, I pulled away from everyone. I have also set the fastest lap, so it was a great race for me.”

The comeback

St-Alphonse Karting’s top 15 drivers’ race was on October 20th and Peter took part in it. At first, he got a fairly slow kart and qualified last position which was 12th. For the race, he was ready to make up for the disappointing qualifying result as he got one of the fastest karts. “I knew that the poor result wasn’t due to my driving because I was clearly driving fast so I wasn’t worried. I got the kart that qualified on pole for the race, so I was determined to make a big comeback. I drove very aggressively and passed many drivers until I was in 3rd position. I was closing in the 1st and 2nd place drivers but the race was going to end. I really wish I had a few more laps but at least I set the fastest time. I can’t ask for too much since I started in last position.”

A perfect race

When Montreal’s indoor karting Action 500 just received brand new karts, Peter was eager to try them and there was no better opportunity than the round #9 on September of the Challenge 500. He first started racing competitively in this race series with only 2 months of karting experience. Peter completed the whole 12 rounds of the Challenge 500 in 2008 and finished 3rd in the Championship while at the same time becoming the rookie of the year. “I didn’t really race there in 2009, but I decided to come back for that round #9 because I assumed everyone would have equally fast karts since Action 500 just got new karts. It turned out to be a perfect race for me. I got pole position, I won by overlapping everyone even the 2nd and 3rd positions, I got the fastest lap and I missed the track record by 0.1 since I had too much traffic to get some clear laps”.
